With Mother’s Day coming up, you may be searching for the perfect gift. Sometimes the best way to make someone happy is not through flowers or wine but through relaxation and comfort! Feet are often neglected, so a nice, soothing massage will definitely be appreciated! Try these simple steps and techniques to give a great foot massage!

Step 1:

A warm, foot soak is a great way to start to ease into the massage and make the person feel relaxed. You can add essential oils for an extra soothing experience. Make sure the chair is comfortable, and while you let the feet soak, you can check to make sure you have foot creams and oils ready. After about 10 minutes, take the feet out and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 2:

Get the blood flowing by gently rotating each ankle. Start in one direction and then switch after a few rotations. Do the same with the toes too.

Step 3:

Now for the actual massage! Pick a product that is hydrating and easy to work with. Warm the product in your hands before applying a small amount to the feet. Gently work it into all areas of the feet and lower legs.

Step 4:

Start with the sole. Gently push your thumbs into the sole of the foot and alternate them as you move up and down the sole of the foot. Then use your thumb to make small circles around the arch and heel. Repeat with the other foot.

Step 5:

Start by placing both thumbs on the arch and slowly apply pressure as you move your thumbs away from the center of the foot. Work your way towards the toes and then the heel area as you repeat this movement.

Step 6:

Massage the heel area by gently squeezing the hollow under the ankle bone and work your way up the lower calf. Repeat this to release tension in the muscles.

Step 7:

Massage along the top and bottom of the foot as you gently pull it towards you. Massage the areas in between the long bones as you repeat the motion.

Step 8:

Do the same for the toes by massaging each toe as you gently pull them towards you. Give the tips a little squeeze for additional release.

Make sure to check in if the pressure is right, and ask if there are any areas that need repeating. By the end of the massage, someone’s feet will be very happy!
