Prep Your Feet for Spring Break

Can you believe we are already in March? For many students, the highly anticipated spring break is coming up! While your mind may be full with planning for fun outings, good food, and tropical beaches, our podiatrists want to remind you to think about your feet too! Because the last thing you want is to have painful and embarrassing feet. Here are ways you can prep your feet for a great spring break!

Moisturize!

Take the time to moisturize your feet to reduce dryness and cracking. The best time to do so is typically after a shower (avoiding in between the toes), before bed, or when you first get up in the morning. You can trap in the moisture by covering your moisturized feet with socks.

Exfoliate!

The winter season can lead to a lot of dryness and buildup of dead skin cells. Get soft, supple feet by using a pumice stone to exfoliate your feet before showering. Finish with moisturizer each time and you will see that your skin becomes softer and smoother!

Get pampered

If your feet have been a bit neglected lately, leave it to the pros to get them back into show-off-at-the-beach shape. Whether you opt for a medical pedicure by a seasoned podiatrist, or you visit a reputable salon to get a pedicure, getting pampered before the vacation is a great way to prep your feet! If you have any increased risks of foot problems or you have any wounds, be sure to consult with a podiatrist for treatment first.

Pack the right shoes

If you’re planning to be relaxing barefoot or walking around the beach for the majority of your trip, you may not think you need a lot of footwear. However, being barefoot results in an increased risk of injury and infections, so it’s important to bring supportive footwear to protect your feet in public places! If you’re planning to be more active, don’t forget some high quality athletic shoes with plenty of shock absorption and support.
